El viaje con mi amor
From 19 March through 8 April my amor visited me. In total three weeks…I expected it would be a long vacation. But it turned out to be transient happiness. Besides, I got some calls from some villagers and had to return to Montero several times during our travel.
We didn’t really travel remotely this time around. Still we had an awesome time together in the department of Santa Curz. We went to see some Incan ruins of Samaipata, paid a visit to Colonia Okinawa where many Japanese immigrants live keeping their unique and original tradition since the 1950’s, visited my host mom’s parents in Valle Grande which looks like a small village of a European country, shopped in markets of Santa Cruz, which is most dangerous place in the area, wondered around a famous night club district, Equipetrol, full of white people who are 10% of the Bolivian population, went to a eco garden where various butterflies and plants are conserved, visited an organic coffee plantation and a coffee factory, stayed at two different four-star hotels in Santa Cruz. Indeed, we enjoyed one of the nicest vacations here.
But above all, the most interesting thing for him would be meeting one of my colleagues asked some random questions like “please get me an American boy exactly like you when you return here, but you are too baby for me so a bit more matured one.” Or a woman in a vegetarian restaurant suggesting, “so is he coming back to Santa Cruz, right? Well, but I suggest to you guys that he might as well stay away from you and Santa Cruz while you are here, since the woman of Santa Cruz are crazy. They don’t care if he is married or has girl friend. They are dangerous!” winking at him, or on the street people randomly whispered “he is like a doll..!”
Honestly, until he came to see me I forgot how much I treasured the life in Japan, my family, friends and Jim. It is funny that now I see my life here in a different way. I just don’t know how different it is from before, but I am sure that it is not that exciting to be here alone any more. Once you’ve got a thing, you want more. This is how things work, right? Hope to see my amor again very soon.
